| Greenhouse Selection Guidelines
|
| Size |
Anticipate your future needs. You can always expand later but it may be more cost effective to invest in more space on your initial purchase. |
| Use |
Determine how you want to use the greenhouse: year-round vegetables & flowers?; propagation & starting seeds?; raising foliage houseplants? growing orchids? raising bonsais? overwintering your outdoor plants? |
| Needs |
Does your use require a simple plastic coldframe or a greenhouse with heating, cooling & ventilation? |
| Sunlight |
Locate your greenhouse where it will receive maximum sunlight in all seasons. You can always shade the greenhouse but it is hard to add sunlight. In cold climates limit your northern exposure where possible. Pay close attention to shading from trees, buildings or other obstacles. |
| Location |
Place your greenhouse in an easily accessible location. Remember you will be carting heavy bags of soil & fertilizer, plants & other equipment to it. Make it accessible to electricity, gas & water. Choose a level, well-drained site. |
